About DID: Decor Interior Design
DID exists to put the exact rules professional designers rely on into everyone's hands - measured, transparent, and free.
Our mission: design decisions you can measure
Most interior advice is a matter of taste. But a surprising amount of it is actually engineering - clearances, sight lines, light levels and proportions that either work or don't. DID: Decor Interior Design turns those measurable rules into fast, dependable calculators so a homeowner, renter, stager or trade professional can get the same precise answer a studio would, without guesswork or a consultation fee.
Meet the human behind the project
Behind every DID tool is one person who genuinely cares whether your rug is the right size. Souad MARIP started DID after years of watching friends, clients and complete strangers wrestle with the same invisible rules — how far apart to hang frames, how high to mount a television, how much light a room actually needs. Instead of keeping that knowledge locked in a designer's head, she set out to turn it into something anyone could use in under a minute, for free.
Souad's work sits at the intersection of interior design and applied building standards: translating published guidance — walkway clearances, the 57-inch museum hanging line, SMPTE and THX viewing geometry, foot-candle lighting targets and the 60-30-10 color proportion — into tools that feel effortless to use but are rigorous underneath.
Every calculator on this site is specified, reviewed and maintained under Souad's direction, with the source rule stated openly on each page so you can check the reasoning yourself. When you use DID, you're not talking to a faceless app — you're using tools shaped by someone who sweats these details so you don't have to.
How we build our tools
- Standards first. Each tool names the rule it enforces and the range it targets, not just a single number.
- Transparent math. The formulas are described in plain language on every page - nothing is hidden.
- Private by design. Calculations run entirely in your browser. We never receive or store the dimensions you enter.
The toolset
DID currently offers 9 precision calculators spanning space planning, lighting, wall & art layout, and color:
- Rug Size Finder - Find the ideal standard rug footprint (8×10, 9×12 and more) from your room dimensions and furniture layout.
- Furniture Clearance Calculator - Check walkways and pinch points against the mandatory 30-inch clearance path for comfortable, code-friendly circulation.
- TV Viewing Distance Calculator - Use SMPTE & THX field-of-view math to size your TV and set the perfect wall-mount height.
- Room Lumen Calculator - Calculate exact LED lumen demand and foot-candle targets for any room type and activity.
- Recessed Lighting Spacer - Determine symmetrical can-light spacing and wall offsets for even, clean ceiling layouts.
- Gallery Wall Spacer - Get fraction-of-an-inch spacing and center lines for a balanced, professional gallery wall.
- Art Hanging Height Calculator - Enforce the universal 57-inch museum center line and get the exact hook height for any frame.
- Curtain Length Visualizer - Compute drapery length and rod height that visually maximize ceiling height, with a live preview.
- 60-30-10 Color Proportion Calculator - Split a room’s surface area into balanced dominant (60%), secondary (30%) and accent (10%) color zones.
