Hang high and wide to lift the ceiling
The most powerful thing curtains do isn't cover a window - it's redraw the wall's proportions. Mounting the rod close to the ceiling and letting the panels fall all the way to the floor draws the eye up the full height of the wall, so the room reads taller and grander. Stopping curtains at the window frame does the opposite: it chops the wall in half.
Choosing your hem
Float (½ inch of clearance) is the crispest, most practical hem and the easiest to vacuum around. Kiss just grazes the floor for a tailored look. Break adds an inch of relaxed gather, and puddle pools the fabric for a soft, romantic effect. The tool adjusts the finished length for whichever you pick.
Width and fullness
Extend the rod 8–12 inches past each side of the window so the open panels clear the glass and the window looks wider. For a rich, gathered drape rather than flat sheets, plan on total fabric roughly twice the rod width - the tool estimates how many standard panels that takes.
